Our founders, Beatrice Asafor (Who is of late) May her soul rest in peace & Calisma Asafor, are from Cameroon. Calisma Asafor learned the art of cooking from her mother (Beatrice) and grandmother (Helen). From a young age, she was captivated by the aromas wafting from the kitchen and the joy that food brought to her community. Each meal was a celebration of life, family, and tradition.
Calisma has experience with using an incredible variety of ingredients, spices, and cooking techniques that define African cuisine. Inspired by this diversity, she dreamed of creating a space where people could experience the richness of African flavors in every bite.
In 2018, Beatrice Asafor's dream became a reality when she opened the doors to Miya Lounge in the city Beltsville. With a commitment to authenticity and quality, she curated a menu that showcased the best of African cuisine, from jollof rice to Cassava leave
